Crooner Johnny Maestro, perhaps most famous for the 1958 hit song by The Crests, "16 Candles", passed away over the weekend after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 70 years old. Maestro began his career in the early fifties with The Crests, who were one of the first interracial singing groups. He also was part of the Del-Satins, which later merged with The Rhythm Method to form Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge in 1968.
