Rapper Lil' Wayne was finally sentenced today in a Manhattan court. As expected the sentence is one year, to be served in the New York City Jail system. After sentencing, the rapper was immediately taken into custody to begin the term, and could be released in as little as eight months with good behavior. He was originally scheduled to begin his jail time in February, but was allowed a postponement to undergo some dental work including eight root canals, and the sentencing was rescheduled for last Monday. Before the rapper arrived, the court house was shut down because of a fire, postponing Lil' Wayne's jail term again. So now, more than two years after being arrested for possessing a .40 caliber handgun in October 2007, Dwayne Carter (aka Lil' Wayne) goes to jail. Even as the rapper heads off to jail, his career is probably at its pinnacle. He reportedly shot footage for seven videos with various artists over the weekend, joined Jay-Z onstage last week, and debuted the video for the single "Drop the World" off his just-released album, "Rebirth".
