U2's performance at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA broke the band's own 22 year-old record for attendance at a US concert with a single headliner. 97,014 fans packed into the famed football stadium for the 360 Tour. On September 25th, 1987 U2 played JFK Stadium, which has since been demolished, to a crowd of 86, 145. In fact, U2 also holds the third spot on this list with another show on the current 360 Tour. Check out the Top 5 attendance and gross earnings concerts in US history below.
Top Attendance at a U.S. concert by a single headliner:
1. U2 - Rose Bowl; Pasadena, Calif. (Oct. 25, 2009) Attendance: 97,014 Gross: $9,960,036
2. U2 - John F. Kennedy Stadium, Philadelphia (Sept. 25, 1987) Attendance: 86,145 Gross: $1,593,683
That is unbelievable. Look at the difference between how much was being made in the eighties and even nineties and then look at the amount bands are making today. What a tragedy. Concerts used to be fifteen dollars and now they cost a hundred bucks to see some mid level band.
