Death Row Records to Attempt Film Venture

The recently revived label home of Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, Death Row Records, are venturing out into film. The label's CEO, Lara Lavi said the new Death Row Films division will be shooting "Sons 2 the Grave" in Toronto this October.

The film is a story about a promising basketball prospect who is forced to return to his inner city ghetto after being shot. "This film embodies what we're trying to do with Death Row, to tell human stories that don't always have happy endings, and that allow us to learn from violence and disenfranchised lives, but not glorify it,"  said Lavi.

The movie will reportedly be scored from the Death Row Records catalog. "We're looking at film properties that relate to Boyz in the Hood-type stories, and to power the films with Death Row music," Lavi said.

The label also has plans on licsensing thousands of songs from unmastered material never released to movies, video games, and TV.
