Dallas Cowboys parting ways with Greg Ellis

After 11 seasons with the team, the last few marred by contract disputes and Ellis' unhappiness about his role on the team, the Dallas Cowboys will attempt to trade DE Greg Ellis. If a deal can't be reached, the Pro Bowler will be cut. Ellis' contentious relationship first started when the Cowboys brought in head coach Bill Parcells and changed from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 and switched Ellis from DE to linebacker. The next season saw the Cowboys draft Anthony Spencer, and, certain that he was unwanted, Ellis demanded a new deal as proof of Dallas' commitment to him. Ellis got the new deal and, despite missing the season's first three games, responded with a career high 12.5 sacks and a Pro Bowl selection. Ellis finished last year with 8 sacks, 36 tackles, and one interception. Ellis will be remevered as the player drafted by the Cowboys when they passed on star wide receiver Randy Moss. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that there are no hard feelings, and the move is strictly to free up cap-room.
