Austin based Arc Angels are planning to reunite. Plans are to release a new DVD and tour extensively and they will also be appearing at this years SXSW. The band was formed out of the ashes of Stevie Ray Vaughn's untimely death. Members include Vaughn's backbone, Double Trouble members, drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon. The band also features guitarist Doyle Bramhall II and vocalist Charlie Sexton.
Guitarist Doyle Bramhall II talked to Billboard.com: "We feel like we have unfinished business here, and it always feels right when we're together........The chemistry is sort of undeniable when we get together. We really enjoy playing with one another."
The band released one album in 1992 and broke up in 1994. Bramhall admits that the break up was partly due to his addiction to heroin. "It just sort of blew up very quickly," he stated. "We were having a lot of success rapidly, and there was a lot of stress created by that. And I was at the time very into self-sabotage, so it was sort of doomed from the beginning, unfortunately."
Bramhall is currently playing with Eric Clapton and in the past has toured with many music legends including Roger Waters. Plans to tour with the Arc Angels will take place in Spring and Summer. The band also plans to record a couple of news songs for the DVD and then to return to the studio in Fall to record a new album.
"We're going to write as much as we can...over the next four, five months and see what we have at the end of the summer," says Bramhall. "We're all really happy. There's not that many opportunities in bands to get that kind of second chance to actually see it through, 'cause most people don't get along by this point. We've all become really great friends and just want to go out and tour and see where we can take this."
