Former Guns n Roses guitarist Slash plans on releasing a solo record, or a new release from current band Velvet Revolver, or possibly doing both in 2009. Slash says that he is at the "tail end of the demo phase" for his solo recording and plans on beginning the recording process in early '09
Slash says that he began working on material on the latest Velvet Revolver tour and says there will be references to both Velvet Revolver and Guns n Roses, but states that there is no real direction. "I just wanted to take a little bit of a break from all the politics and the democracy that is a band and just sort of do my own thing for a little bit. There will be a lot of stuff I don't have the freedom to do in a band situation."
The guitarist plans on using a different vocalist on each song, but is not naming any name just yet. "They're all sort of well-known singers," he says. "It's sort of like how I go play on a lot of other people's records, so other people will just play on this one."
The record is Slash's first priority, unless Velvet Revolver finds a new vocalist, which at that time, his priorities will shift to the band. The band has alread turned down an offer to bring their search for a vocalist to reality TV, but the band turned it down. Slash commented, "There's such a huge lack of integrity in that process"
On how the vocal search is going Slash says there have been some established vocalists who have shown interest in fronting Velvet Revolver. "There's been a couple that might have been interesting.......but with any of those "name" people ... it's really hard to make something sound original if you've got somebody people are so familiar with hearing somewhere else. But I must admit the bar has been raised; the quality of the singers we're getting is much better."
