"What a great 4 days it was! We flew into San Antonio on Thursday to be met at the airport by Tom Mathers of Perris Records and producer of the TV show & magazine “ROCK NATION”. We set off immediately to grab our rooms, which were only two blocks from The San Antonio Riverwalk and also The Alamo. From there we headed off to CD Trader, where Tom had organized an in-store for us. Here we met lots of old fans, signed autographs, and basked in the fact that we were in Texas and the temperature was 100 +. We returned a couple of hours later to our hotel rooms, and from there headed out to check out to the beautiful River Walk.
Lynda and I stayed behind at the hotel that evening while the rest of the band headed for the festival grounds to check out Dokken and Queensyrche.
Dave Meniketti and Y&T were onstage when we got there. The first time we ever played in Texas was in 1981 in Helotiz (sp?) with Y&T, so it was a little bit of déjà vu. We also toured with the band through California and Washington state during the mid 80’s. I talked to Dave briefly at the side of the stage and then he was off in a van.
Next band on was U.F.O. Lynda knew the guys in the band from years ago when they were all hippies in Cricklewood. We talked to Phil Moog and Andy Parker backstage before they went on and Lynda reminisced with them briefly about those good times almost 40 years ago. They played the best set of the whole festival and blew away the crowd. It was a beautiful Texas night with the setting sun bidding one last goodbye on the distant hills; scarlet colors on the horizon giving a surreal feeling to the whole event. Lynda and I watched from the side of the stage, her in a powder blue mini-skirt and me in my jeans, sleeveless T shirt and newly acquired Texan cowboy hat. What a memorable evening."
