Kirk Hammett to Appear On New Exodus Album

While Metallica is celebrating the 31st anniversary of its classic debut album Kill 'em All today, the band's guitaist Kirk Hammett is celebrating something even older than that.  Before joining Metallica, Hammett spent several years in another Bay Area thrash band, Exodus, and is even credited with naming the band.  The guitarist was recently invited to contribute a guitar solo to the latest effort from Exodus, due this fall.  Tonight, Hammett will perform with his old bandmates at his Fear FestEvil After Party at the Comic-Con event in San Diego.  In an interview with Rolling Stone, Hammett said he was very excited to record with Exodus, as the only recording from the band that he ever appeared on was a 1980 demo.  He has performed with the band on a number of occasions, however, including his Fear FestEvil event in February, when he jammed the band's classic song "Piranha" with the band.  Hammett's impact on Exodus's early years is undeniable.  In addition to naming the band, he is also credited for bringing in the band's original singer, Paul Baloff.

Titled Blood In, Blood Out; the forthcoming Exodus album not only marks Hammett's first offical recording with the band, it will also be their first effort with Steve "Zetro" Souza on vocals since 2004.  Souza appeared on many of Exodus's most successful releases, including 1989's Fabulous Disaster.  Blood In, Blood Out will mark the beginning of Souza's third stint with the band, and the first time he replaces somebody other than Baloff, who passed away in 2002 from complications after suffering a stroke.  The album is currently scheduled for an October 2014 release on Nuclear Blast Records.
