And the First Band to Ever Play at the Louvre is.......Duran Duran?

In an unprecedented move, the world-famous Louvre Museum in Paris, France will today open its doors to the American and International Friends of the Louvre for the start of an exceptional three-day fundraising effort that will contribute to the restoration of a magnificent Louis XV drawing room, originally created for the Hotel Villemare and that will be featured in the 18th century Decorative Arts Gallery of the museum, which will re-open in 2011.

As part of this unique occasion, guests will tonight dine in the Borghese-Daru Gallery, after privately viewing some of the museum's most spectacular works, following which Duran Duran will perform in the magnificent I.M. Pei-designed Pyramid Du Louvre. The group's performance marks a first for both the band members and the 18th Century Museum (who have never before allowed a rock concert to take place anywhere within either the grounds or buildings).

Tonight's event will be the fourth Louvre fundraising event chaired by Texan philanthropist Becca Cason Thrash who has so far helped to raise more than $1.8 million for the Decorative Arts Gallery. According to press reports, the guest list which is officially under-wraps until tonight, will be "loaded with international fashion figures, European royalty, barons of American business and the glitterati from points beyond."

Speaking from Paris this morning, singer Simon LeBon said "It's a great honor for us to be asked to perform at this prestigious occasion and we're looking forward to stepped onto a stage in what is undoubtedly one of the world's most significant buildings. We are all great lovers of the arts and have visited the museum's works many times. Helping to raise funds for this incredible institution is a tremendous privilege. Hopefully it will put a smile on the Mona Lisa's face!"
