New Anvil Documentary Has Music Industry Licking Their "Lips"

Anvil is by no means a household name, but they may, after thirty years finally be on their way.  "Anvil: The Story of Anvil", the documentary about the band's past and present, was financed by Sacha Gervasi, who was a founding member, along with Gavin Rossdale, of the band Bush.  Apparently, back in the Anvil's heyday (early 80's), aside from being a huge Anvil fan, Gervasi was also a sixteen year old roadie for the band.

"I financed the film, but we did it in such a way that in terms of the creative contributions, it's all favored nations between me and the band," Gervasi says.  Aside from Bush, Gervasi has also written screenplays for Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Nicole Kidman and Keanu Reeves.

Anvil is a band that has influenced some of metal's biggest icons, including Metallica, Guns n Roses and Anthrax.  However, they themselves never achieved major fame.  This is their humbling story:

The Award winning documentary will soon be coming to the United States.  The film was released in the UK in February and has caused an outburst of activity and ticket sales.  It was already named the highest-grossing music documentary in U.K. history.

Already there are three major record labels that are bidding to release the movie
soundtrack and VH1 has signed on to distribute the video.  The band's latest full length release, "This is Thirteen" (their 13th release), is selling out at every show.   The band is also planning to enter the studio soon, to begin recording their next record.
Founding member Steve "Lips" Kudlow says, "This is a one-of-a-kind situation where by the end of the movie people have emotionally invested in us and then they can be a part of the epilogue," Kudlow says. "Their reaction has an effect on the way our lives continue on, by buying the CD, they've changed our lives."
